Dr. Michael Cohen, a psychologist who worked as a consultant on the development of the movie and also provided Disney Channel consultancy on its short form series "Express Yourself," offers the following suggestions for parents who have questions about viewing "Tiger Cruise":
- Parents trust Disney Channel for programming that their children can watch by themselves, without supervision. In the case of this movie, we strongly encourage co-viewing. Watch "Tiger Cruise" together with your kids.
- Why co-view? The dialogue you can have with your children can be very important. While we know there are topics we should broach with our kids, it is often difficult to know how to start the conversation, and this movie could be a catalyst for meaningful discussion.
- "Tiger Cruise" is a multi-layered daughter/father story, it is not about terrorist attacks. It deals with the relationship between a young girl and her father, and the choice he has made; it shows civilians learning about their loved ones' lives in the military, and one father coming to terms with why his daughter struggles to understand what he does. "Tiger Cruise" is also about how one event can serve as a catalyst for positive change, and that dialogue can be uplifting.
- Make an informed choice as to whether this is the right movie for your family to watch.
