Games
Manny's Tools love to play games. Sometimes it's bowling, sometimes it's checkers, sometimes it's a simple game of hide-and-seek, but the Tools are always up for playing games together! Here are some ideas that your preschoolers will love, too!
Ask your King if he loves jigsaw puzzles, and if so, you can help him work on his favorite one! Or maybe you could even follow these simple instructions, and build your own puzzle ... made special for your dia especial (special day)!
What you need:
- Crayons, markers, or colored pencils
- Scissors
- A hard surface on which to play
Instructions:
- Choose a picture from a coloring book that you don't mind tearing out, or color your very own picture for the King on heavyweight paper. Cut up the picture into lots of pieces in unique puzzle-like shapes. That's it! You've made your very own puzzle.
This is a fun game that can be played in the Fort, outside in the yard, or anywhere the King chooses.
What you need:
- A 1-gallon milk jug, empty, washed, and dried
- 5-10 wooden clothespins
- Crayons and/or markers
- Glitter
- White glue
Instructions:
- This game is best when played by four or more players. First, ask the little ones to decorate some clothes pins with glue and glitter, or simply color them with marker or crayons and set them aside to dry. Have each player place their hand about four to five feet above the mouth of the open milk jug (have an adult around to spot each player). Close one eye before dropping the pin into the jug. Whoever drops the most pins into the milk jug wins!
Activities
Manny and the Tools love activities where they get to "trabajar juntos" - work together! Part of the "King for a Day" celebration should include indoor and outdoor games and activities that will encourage Handy Manny's beloved characteristics of being helpful, kind, and working well with others.
Getting to know our family members is very important because it is one of many ways to learn our family history. By spending time with your King and talking to him about his life, you get to hear his life stories and learn about your ancestors.
What you need:
Instructions:
- Print out the Top 10 Questions for the King on heavyweight paper. Then, ask your chosen King to write down the answers to questions in the spaces provided. Now spend some time together with the little ones, talking about the answers and building the family's knowledge of the "King's Kingly Story." When you're done, keep the questionnaire in your scrapbook so you'll always remember this special day.
What you need:
Instructions:
- Hide the gifts you have for the king all in one room of the house.
- Tear the King's Royal Treasure Map's edges to give it a rough-hewn look.
- Cut out the pieces of furniture on the furniture template. Remember to only cut out the same pieces of furniture that are in the room where the treasure is hidden.
- Glue the furniture pieces down onto the map like you see in the room.
- Now, show the King the route he must take to find all his presents by gluing the "X" onto the map, then drawing a dotted line in between each hidden gift, signifying the path he should take.
Kings live in castles, and if Manny lived in the same kingdom as the King, he'd sure help fix it! Preschoolers love to play in forts, which are like homemade castles! Chances are, your King once made his own fort and would love to help you build and play in yours!
What you need:
- Sheets
- Pillows, from the couch and/or the bed
- Sofa cushions
- Flashlights
- Blankets
- If available, empty cardboard boxes
Instructions:
- Be sure your King helps you with this activity ... chances are he is a wise king and has done this before!
- Clear an area near a couch, chair, or otherwise sturdy structure.
- Using the sturdy structure as a base, prop up pillows and cushions on their sides to build the walls of your fort.
- Use the sheets and blankets to build the roof.
- Crawl inside with your King and your flashlight, and let the fun begin!
Even royalty wears calcetines (socks) inside their shoes. And even royalty tend to have messy sock drawers! You can help your favorite King reorganize his sock drawer as both a gift of helpfulness, and as an activity that you can spend time doing together.
Instructions:
- This is very simple -- all you have to do is dump out the king's messy sock drawer on the bed or other comfy surface for you to work on, sit across the pile from the King, and begin matching sock pairs! Keep going 'til all sock pairs have been matched.
