As guests arrive to the party, have a simple but engaging activity that they can do while they wait for all guests to arrive.
Activities:
Oso finds himself involved in all kinds of challenging but thrilling missions that require learning brand-new skills and succeeding with just three special steps. Let your partygoers get in on the "mission action" by helping grown-ups create a table centerpiece!
What you need:
- A short plastic vase, or a piece of floral foam or Styrofoam, approximately 10-12 inches square
- Pipe cleaners or popsicle sticks
- Craft glue
- Craft paint or wrapping paper
- A table protected by plastic covering
- Printable stickers and characters
Instructions:
Before the party:
- Have a grown-up start the project by covering the vase or foam with paint or wrapping paper that fits with Oso's colors and/or gadgets: yellow or turquoise paint, paper with cars or planes, etc.
- Print out the Oso character (front and back), glue both sides together, and then glue to a popsicle stick. Place into the foam or vase.
At the party:
- As guests arrive, direct them to your craft table and explain that the party mission involves creating the centerpiece decoration for the party table. Ask kids to try and figure out what the three special steps might be and offer suggestions and guidance as they think.
Step 1: Children color a sticker and write their name on it.
Step 2: They stick (or glue) it to a pipe cleaner or popsicle stick
Step 3: They add their creation to the centerpiece! Way to go!
Special Agent Wolfie, Special Agent Oso, and Special Agent Dotty are clever critters who work with precision and always get the job done. Kids might also like to imagine themselves as enterprising sleuths as they go about their party activities -- and they'll need secret identities to do so. Help each child create an undercover persona with badges that they can wear.
What you need:
- Crayons, colored pencils, and/or markers
- Sticky name badge labels (available at office supply stores)
- Paper
Instructions:
- As the party gets started, have a grown-up explain to the children what an alias is and give them some examples of animal aliases they can choose, like "Special Agent Cheetah," Special Agent Fast Fox," "Special Agent Star Spider," etc.
- Once children have chosen their names, have a grown-up help them write it on their badge.
- Ask the children to use crayons or markers to draw a picture of themselves as special agent animals.
- Attach the name badge label onto the children's shirts so that, in Oso's words, they're "good to go!"
- Optional: Have a washable inkpad on hand and let children add their fingerprints to their badges.
- Tip: Divide the children and have half of them helping with the centerpiece activity while half create badges, and then rotate!
Games:
Like Secret Agent 007 before him, Oso is known for his high-tech mission gear, including his Whirlybird, which always transports him "to help a kid somewhere." But wait a minute, something's not quite right: Our Whirlybird is experiencing some technical difficulties! Are partygoers on the scene to help?
What you need:
Instructions:
- Hang the Whirlybird on a wall or door, at little ones' eye level.
- Write each child's name on one tail part; fasten tape to each tail.
- Line children up and remind them to be quiet while each child is taking their turn.
- Blindfold first child in line, guide them to the Whirlybird display, and ask them to attach it as close to the right position as possible.
Optional: you can spin each child once or twice to make the task more difficult.
- Once each child has attached a tail, determine who placed a tail closest to the correct position on the Whirlybird.
- Hand out Digi-Medals to the proud participants!
If you'll excuse him, Special Agent Oso has an assignment to complete. But first, he needs his safety gear ... and with a little help from you, there's nothing he can't do!
What you need:
- A variety of adventure gear and safety equipment: Goggles, binoculars, flashlights, jackets, helmets, earmuffs, boots, backpacks, gloves, etc. Have enough so that two teams have equal numbers of items.
- A large area - a yard or recreation room - with enough space for children to run a bit to get to the gear
Instructions:
- Divide children into two teams
- Explain the goal of the game in three special steps:
Step 1: Kids race to the "safety gear headquarters"
Step 2: They don all of the gear
Step 3: They race back to their teams and take off gear to allow the next team-mate to participate in the relay
- The first team to get all members to and from the safety gear headquarters first wins!
Paw Pilot always helps Oso remember the steps he has to take to accomplish a mission. She's ready to test little ones' smarts and see how well they remember images they've seen. Now, pay attention, kids: Take a peek, shuffle the cards, and test your matching memory!
What you need:
Instructions:
- Gather a small group of children to demonstrate how the game is played.
- Let children look at the cards for a few minutes and have a grown-up point out unique aspects of the pictures, characters' names, etc.
- Shuffle the cards and ask a little helper to lay out the cards, face-down, in rows on the floor or table.
- Select someone to go first, turning up only two cards to see if a match is made.
- Allow next child to go, once again trying to make a match.
- Play until all cards have been matched.
